1. Subject - Thermodynamics: Polytechnic 4th Semester Mechanical

The aim of the Thermodynamics subject is to let the students know about the different properties of the perfect gases and different thermodynamic processes. standard cycles and their practical significance. 

The different properties of steam, use of steam tables, Mollier chart., vapor cycles, etc. Upon the completion of the subject, the students will be able to: 
  • Solve problems with the laws of Perfect Gases 
  • Analyze the thermodynamic process 
  • Know the calorific values of fuel 
  • Solve problems on air standard cycles 
  • Solve problems of steam generation with the help of steam tables 
  • Explain the principle of the Rankine Cycle
  • Know the types of heat transfer

2. Subject - Engineering Materials: Polytechnic 4th Semester Mechanical

The aim of the Engineering Materials subject is to let the students know the properties of engineering materials, the internal structure, a brief of the heat treatment process of metals, and applications. Upon the completion of the subject, the students will be able to:

The aim of the subject is to know the kinematics of machines, their mechanisms, and the friction involved. Methods of transmission of power, the role of cams, the effect of vibration, balancing, and governors. Upon the completion of the subject, the students will be able to:
  • Appreciate the importance of the Kinematics of Machines, their Mechanisms & Inversions 
  • Explain the friction involved in bearings, clutches & brakes 
  • Know different methods of transmission of power 
  • Analyze different types of cams and their motions and also draw cam profiles for various motions
  • Know different types of vibration and understand the critical speed of the shaft
